Nimes feels more like a city bigger than Arles because there are more arterials, but I think that it is only slightly bigger than Arles. Nimes has a small town feel and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed and comfortable. The train station is definitely larger than Arles and there are more connections here.

The old part of Nimes deserves some exploration time, as do all old parts of any French town.
Just north of the old part of Nimes lies a few Roman artifacts...

I loved the Jardins de la Fontaine. I could have spent a whole day just whittling time there by people watching. Pack a picnic and enjoy it here.
